2018 challenge: a volume with an LGBTQ+ protagonist
I picked this up from Edelweiss (thanks Viz Media for giving me access) to make up one's mind if information technology was something I should order for the library. It is cute and sweetness (not sugariness as in "Cool" simply sweet every bit in heart touching) and both master characters are likable. Fifty-fifty if someone does not like reading virtually gay love, it's pretty innocent, not also preachy and still something relatable. I think I'll exist ordering for my library.2018 challenge: a book with an LGBTQ+ protagonist

The (admitting by)relationship between he 26 year quondam and the 16 year old should non be glorified at all. It came off equally creepy and predatory in a volume that'd accept been fine otherwise
Update after finishing 3rd vol: this series is not for me.
I..... don't know how I feel virtually this. I am very conflicted. I need to sit a bit. Art is good.Update after finishing 3rd vol: this series is not for me.

Really super cute m/k slow burn romance thing happening here.Noshiro'southward an adorable, puppy-similar hufflepuff who loves people and tries really hard to brand anybody feel welcome and included, because he's changed schoolhouse's a lot and knows how it feels to be on the exterior. His exuberance is charming, but, like a big domestic dog, sometimes he accidentally knocks people and things over. He becomes determined to be friends with the form loner, Sanada, who is rumored to be gay.
Much as I enjoy Noshiro, I actually love Sanada. He's super withdrawn, and I felt and so much for his situation. He wants to be left alone, to be immune to be himself, but anybody constantly speculates and judges him because of those rumors. They're true, of course, only that shouldn't change the fashion anyone interacts with him. Even Noshiro does some actually sketchy, homophobic stuff, although he takes criticism and immediately tries to improve his behavior. He's a sweetness little introverted grump, and I adore him. Though I am a scrap curious almost his back story, because there's clearly some weird shit going on there since his ex-boyfriend is 26. (I similar Hide but omg why are you and then old, Hide?!?!)
Trigger warning for homosexual slurs. It was rather a lot, I felt, and, though it may exist accurate for Japan idk, it felt a bit outdated to me at present. Even so, information technology'due south all about that arc, going from unintended homophobia to true tolerance.
I'g totally on board this ship, and I wish all of the volumes were out because I don't want to waiiiiit.

This was then cute! I picked it upward because seeing a fatter graphic symbol on cover intrigued me, and this is so precious. I dear that Noshiro has Hide and the way he's kinda helping Noshiro feel comfy and secure. It's a great example of an older gay man existence mentor to young man figuring out his sexuality and figuring out his feelings for Sanada. I also just dear the friendship between Noshiro and Sanada, and the mode things are developing betwixt them. This is truly such a sugariness manga and I can't await to read the balance of the series!

This was a super cute introduction to a story about acceptance and self discovery. I really enjoy the message this book is trying to spread and I can't expect to continue on with this serial. I'm so gald I decided to option upward the get-go volume on a whim!

Second read: June 2019
My merely issue is that I don't sympathize why it is such a common trope in manga where gay characters have these inappropriate relationships with adult characters (other than here, I've seen it in Aoi Hana/Sweet Blue Flowers and Classmates: Doukyusei). It's simply very squicky to me, as if these young characters having feelings for same-sexual practice adults leads to a grooming-esque scenario from the adults in question. I just don't like it.

Merely other than that I really do like this manga and expect forrard to seeing how the side by side 2 volumes go.

It's funny, sweet and while there is (perchance a romance) developing, I beloved that information technology focuses on friendship. I'm very excited to read volume 2!
Information technology took me forever to get into this story. I didn't actually start enjoying it until it was almost over. The way the main grapheme, Noshiro, forced himself (or his opinion) into situations that either didn't concern him or that he didn't fully empathise annoyed me to no stop. I know he ever meant well merely that all the same didn't make it right.

More than like 2 i/2 starsInformation technology took me forever to become into this story. I didn't actually start enjoying it until it was most over. The way the main character, Noshiro, forced himself (or his stance) into situations that either didn't concern him or that he didn't fully understand bellyaching me to no end. I know he ever meant well just that even so didn't brand it right.
That older dude, Hibernate, was hella creepy. Was he just hanging effectually the school waiting for class to let out the first time he talked to Noshiro? The way he came out of nowhere and the actual questions he was asking him didn't feel right. And just why was he and then concerned nigh what was going on betwixt two loftier school kids anyhow? Did he not have adult friends he could hang out with? And don't even go me started on how he tricked Noshiro into coming over to his house that dark. The whole evening was weird and creepy and even though he did brand Noshiro feel improve it still left a bad gustation in my mouth.
The art style kind was beautiful but information technology threw me off a few times. I know these are high schoolhouse students merely they looked more like they were in middle school. Also, it would take been ameliorate if they just talked ordinarily. I get that the translator was trying to make the characters sound similar teenagers but it was too much. Saying stuff like "similar" and "yous know" all the time gets incredibly distracting later a while.
Overall, it was a less than vanilla, supposedly funny, dull fire BL story that isn't necessarily my cup of tea, but not then bad that I refuse to read the next volume. I however want to come across what develops between Noshiro and Sanada since, clearly, something will.

I don't know what it is exactly only the story doesn't quite work for me... I already read volume 2 and I'1000 still not certain about it. Only I will read volume 3 to come across how the story ends.
Information technology's not unusual to see a younger (teen) and an older (adult) guy as a couple (well, ex-couple in this case) in manga and sometimes, while it'south still questionable, information technology works and sometimes it'due south just creepy. In this case, it's creepy.I don't know what it is exactly only the story doesn't quite work for me... I already read volume 2 and I'one thousand still not sure about it. Just I will read volume iii to see how the story ends.

This was a fun volume. I enjoyed my time reading information technology and want to proceed with the serial. Nevertheless I don't feel super attached to the characters and there are some parts that make me a trivial iff which I'll recount in the spoiler section.(view spoiler)[So…he has a 26 yr old ex? That's a joke riiight? Why couldn't they have made him 20? It's all notwithstanding weird cause he's in high school and at most 17/18. But 26! Maybe it's a mistranslation although that'south a fat chance. I'll still read, merely peradventure it'll be addressed and hopefully not made worse. As I said I don't peculiarly feel for the characters also much. The dear involvement is moody and hard to get a experience for his personality. Nosotros don't really get anything concrete from him in the end. He'southward aloof, and acts that style equally protection, but we don't quite get to know him at all. As well his friend (who's a girl but not girlfriend) is constantly smiling at him when hes not looking. Like at first it'due south sweetness cause she cares about him, and and so I figure she ships them, and so I recollect maybe she has a trounce, starting time on the new kid, and so on her friend, and now it's just creepy. Information technology almost felt like breaking the 3rd wall when they'd show her. Like she was involved, knows something more than we do, merely she only every has an expression I can't suss out. What's worse is that ever since he's introduced, he meddles into these teenager'southward lives, even going so far every bit to trick the main character into going to his flat. Aught bad happened, and he merely took him over to talk in private, merely he lied to the protagonist to go him that far. That's creepy?? A generally cute book up until the reveal that Kou (the 11th grader gay boy) used to be in a relationship with a 26 yr old human being. What's worse is that ever since he's introduced, he meddles into these teenager's lives, fifty-fifty going then far as to trick the main graphic symbol into going to his apartment. Zippo bad happened, and he only took him over to talk in individual, only he lied to the protagonist to get him that far. That'southward creepy?? He even gives his phone number to the boys and talk back and forth with them. This creepy age gap is completely normalised as what gay people do, which is incredibly harmful.
I read this volume fresh off of Shimanami Tasogare, and so while I'm at information technology, Noshiro is exceptionally rude to Kou. Asking invasive questions, ignoring Kou'south requests to leave him solitary, and hugging/tackling/touching Kou without his consent. His perky "I just want to get to know him" attitude is so analytical.
This book has been touted for "not being fatphobic" but there'due south a couple of fatphobic comments in this volume.
I want to proceed reading for the blossoming relationship between the two main boys, but the creepy 26 year old butting into their lives thing simply ruined everything about this.
Read Shimanami Tasogare or at the very least, My Brother'southward Hubby instead.

I accept conflicted feelings virtually this one. On the one manus, our male child who doesn't know how he feels is adorably upbeat and wants to be good even if he fails at it. On the other, the book repeatedly uses specifically the discussion 'homo' and in ways that English speakers really wouldn't. I'm not certain if information technology's a translation error or what, but information technology'southward hard to read with the number of times that specific word is thrown around.Otherwise, I really appreciate that nosotros're seeing a circuitous human relationship that even involves an older member of the community acting a fleck as a guide and advisor for our main two. Similar Dreams at Dusk, it helps contextualize the main characters' experience as office of a larger community rather than but ~clandestine lovers~.
